Help us save the endangered New Zealand Sea Lion! The New Zealand Sea Lion or Rāpoka is the worlds rarest, and has been on the brink of extinction before, due to fisheries. As of April 15th 2024 the measures put into place in order to protect them have been significantly reduced. Fisheries Minister Shane Jones has completely scrapped an official limit of acceptable Sea Lion deaths in commercial fishing nets, or Fishing Related Mortality Limit (FRML). The annual count of Sea Lions Pups was down 30% as of last year, this means we are down approximately 400 Sea Lion Pups. By removing the FRML we could be potentially talking about turning the New Zealand Sea Lion, or Rāpoka extinct.
