My son, along with hundreds of other children, may lose their beloved Yick Wo Elementary school due to the district's proposed closure. It's more than just a school to us; it's a vibrant community that nurtures our children's educational and social development. This abrupt decision has placed unforeseen stress on families, and the negative effects on our children’s education and social life cannot be understated. 

Research has shown that school closures disrupt children's academic progression, with an increased risk of dropout. Studies have conveyed that a change in the regularity of schooling can adversely affect a child's mental well-being (Aikens & Barbarin, 2008). The proposed closure further exacerbates the disruption already caused by the pandemic, at a time when consistency and support are paramount. More than ever, our children require stability and a conducive learning environment.

We must not let this proposed closure become a devastating reality. We urge the district to reconsider its decision and ponder upon its profound impact. These are not just buildings; they are foundations of our children's future. The district's economic concerns surely pale in comparison to the disruption of numerous young lives.
