The Issue

I am writing regarding a recent report on the proposed Greggs branch at Bishop’s Park. While news of local development is always of interest, more attention needs to be paid to what the community is losing in the process: our local children's charity shop.

Our children's charity shop is far more than a mere retail unit; it stands as a vital community hub. This unique space has served the Bishop’s Park community for years, allowing children and families to access essential items at affordable prices. Moreover, it's become a central place where residents, particularly parents, engage with others, sharing advice and forming connections.

Equally essential is its role as a primary supply hub for other charity branches. Donations collected here are not only distributed locally; they also support charities across the region, thereby amplifying the goodwill and aid that originates from our community. Eliminating this shop risks severing these crucial links that support charitable work far beyond Bishop’s Park.

Greggs is a successful and well-loved business, but introducing a new branch should not mean sacrificing key community resources. There are alternative locations within the area that could accommodate a new store without displacing essential services. It is imperative that decisions about local development consider the social fabric and values that shops like our children's charity represent.

Our children's charity shop is an irreplaceable asset. It offers more than discounts; it offers dignity, aid, and community spirit. Let's stand together to preserve it.

Please sign this petition to urge local authorities and developers to reconsider their plans and preserve this vital part of our community. Every signature counts in safeguarding the invaluable support and connections provided by our children’s charity shop. We need your support to keep our community whole.
