I have experienced first-hand the negative impacts of fentanyl use and human trafficking in Canada, having been a survivor of terrorism along with my fiancée. Fleeing from Winnipeg to Calgary, and then to British Columbia, we have suffered continuous attacks and exploitation. Moreover, we've witnessed how deeply these issues intertwine with the tragic issue of missing and murdered indigenous women.

Our experiences aren't unique, unfortunately. Thousands of people are impacted by the drug trade, human rights violations, and corruption. The opioid crisis, more specifically the fentanyl problem, has caused significant harm. According to the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction, there were 17,602 apparent opioid toxicity deaths in Canada from January 2016 to June 2020. This crisis is especially reality for innocent Canadians who end up being users through illegal human trafficking and forced sex trade rings.

Ill-managed trade policy further compounds these problems. Imposition of tariffs, influenced by corruption and regulatory violations, destabilizes our economy, making it harder for people like us to rebuild our lives.

This petition calls upon the Canadian government to take necessary actions: dismantle all types of corruption, regulate trade policies fairly, ban the manufacturing and sale of ingredients used in producing fentanyl, take assertive actions against human trafficking and the illegal sex trade, and establish robust detox treatment plans for those affected by fentanyl use.

Additionally, we urge both the Canadian and U.S. governments to work jointly on these issues as they deeply affect residents in both countries. It's time for Canada and the USA to stand together and take action.
