SAVE OUR BUTTERMARKET

SAVE OUR BUTTERMARKET
The Issue
Retford Buttermarket is an historical market designed and used for the employment of market traders to sell their wares and has been used this way for many, many years gathering a good and mixed assortment of traders.
However our Labour run Bassetlaw District Council have, in their wisdom, decided that a £1.2 million grant is to now be used to change the use of the Buttermarket into a Food Hall therefore ejecting the market traders. The traders only found out about this when they were informed one Saturday morning that that days market would be their last. BDC state a consultation took place but to date I cannot find anyone who took part in it.
The objective of this petition is to gain enough support to convince BDC that they have got it wrong and that when consulted, and informed, of the plans for the Buttermarket that a large part of Retfords residents and shoppers, would support it to remain as an internal market but also see the £1.2 million pound grant spent on the building upgrading it for the traders whilst also exploring uses for it when not in use as a market.
BDC initially ejected the market traders at very short notice, a couple of hours, as work was to start on the Buttermarket immediately. This has not happened but time is now important to get this petion online and the it's results forwarded to BDC ASAP.
Now the official part:-
We the undersigned are asking Bassetlaw District Council to reconsider the change of use of the Retford Buttermarket from crafts as it was intended to a food hall as we already have over 70 eateries in Retford.
