Dear Supporter,

Thank you for standing with us to protect the heritage pavilions at Oak Park and Shelly Beach. Your support has been incredible – together we’ve reached over 860 signatures!

Here’s what has happened so far:
✅ Our petition, supported by over 500 people at the time, was submitted to Sutherland Shire Council through the official Have Your Say platform before the consultation closed on 5 November 2025.
✅ We received formal acknowledgment that our feedback would be included in the review.

However, when the Council published the consultation results, the feedback contained in our petition – and the fact that hundreds of residents and visitors signed it – was barely mentioned. The summary of engagement did not acknowledge the 500+ petition signatures or the strong community voice calling for preservation of the open-air changing rooms.

This is deeply concerning. The current concept design still threatens to:

• Erase the iconic open-air changing rooms, replacing them with twelve enclosed toilet cubicles.
• Reduce accessibility and remove a cherished feature of our beach culture.
• Alter the Art Deco skyline and obstruct ocean views from the park.

These changes will disproportionately impact women, families, and elderly residents, while eliminating a heritage feature that defines the Pavilion’s character.

What’s next?
We are preparing to send the petition directly to all Councillors and the Mayor to ensure our voices are heard at the highest level. Before we do, let’s make our message even stronger:
