Save NMMC’s Child Psychiatric Unit!

The Issue

We are a new, growing coalition of community members from all service areas that provided critical care for our children and teens in our rural areas — formed in response to the recent decision to take away a vital resource for our most vulnerable populations.

Our mission is to grow this community movement to collectively address the recent unilateral decision by the administration of NMMC to close the only children’s psychiatric unit within 3-4 hours of the area.

YOU CAN HELP by signing this petition to show your support, especially for those who aren’t in Fort Kent but want to help support this movement.

Separately, we are just individuals whose concerns for saving this needed service have not been heard; together we are organising so that these decisions actually involve community members through constructive dialogue between hospital administrators, staff and the communities that are affected.

Please like, follow and share our Save NMMC’s Child Psychiatric Unit Facebook page to get the word out while we rally community members and professionals in the healthcare field so that our voices will be heard—and hopefully this decision will be able to be reversed. We are already organising meetings, rallies and other events to get the word out and not be silenced by those in power who care more about their profits than the lives of our communities’ children. This petition is just another way to communicate the support for our cause.

Thank you for your support. Our children, the future of Maine, deserve better and we are tasked with advocating for those who cannot. The stakes could not be higher when talking about acute mental health crises—literal life and death. We must act swiftly while this can still be reversed… our communities childrens’ lives are on the line.
