The Issue

Petition to Leadership of Neiman Marcus, Brookfield Asset Management, and General Growth Properties

Aloha,

Hawai‘i is on the brink of losing something truly special—but we don’t have to let it happen.

We, the undersigned, respectfully urge leadership at Neiman Marcus, Brookfield, and General Growth Properties (GGP) to reconsider the decision to close the Neiman Marcus Hawai‘i location at Ala Moana Center.

This store is far more than a retail space. It is a vital contributor to Hawai‘i’s economy and a workplace supporting employees and their families. Its closure would create a ripple effect across retail, hospitality, culinary services, and operations—impacting livelihoods throughout the community.

For decades, Neiman Marcus has also been part of Hawai‘i’s social fabric. It is where residents and visitors gather to celebrate milestones, dine, and create lasting memories. Losing it would mean losing a meaningful part of the Ala Moana experience.

From an economic standpoint, Hawai‘i relies heavily on tourism, retail, and hospitality. As a destination retailer, Neiman Marcus helps position Hawai‘i as a world-class shopping destination. Its presence as an anchor tenant drives foot traffic that supports surrounding businesses and strengthens the entire retail ecosystem.

Hawai‘i’s role as a gateway between North America and the Asia-Pacific region makes maintaining a strong luxury retail presence even more important. Neiman Marcus plays a key role in reinforcing Honolulu’s standing as a premier international destination.

Closing this location would not just affect one store—it would impact workers, families, local businesses, and the broader economy.

We respectfully ask all parties to work collaboratively to find a solution that keeps Neiman Marcus in Hawai‘i and preserves its long-standing role in our community.

Why This Matters
* Protects local jobs and families
* Supports Hawai‘i’s tourism-driven economy
* Preserves a key anchor at Ala Moana Center
* Maintains Hawai‘i’s global reputation as a premier shopping destination
* Prevents economic ripple effects across multiple industries
