SAVE NATURE'S CORRIDORS:THE MASAI MARA WILDBEAST MIGRATION

SAVE NATURE'S CORRIDORS:THE MASAI MARA WILDBEAST MIGRATION
The Issue
For millenia this has been a spectacular whereby over 1.2 million wildbeast and 300,000 zebra and other gazelles cross the Serengeti and the Masai mara back and forth not for leisure but for survival but this ancient movement is coming to an end.
An infamous five star hotel known as the 'Ritz-carlton ,Masai Mara Safari Camp' built in the path and corridors of this beautiful beast threatening it's survival and which will bring a catastrophic chain reaction in the ecosystem.
This atrocious act might lead so many changes including the following:
- Mass starvation of the beast,Zebras, gazelles and the animals because this movement happens in search of green fresh grass and clean water so if the hindrance happens it will lead to massive starvation and dehydration.
- The calving season occurs in the middle of the migration and in two to three weeks 400,000 calves are born and every day over 8000 calves are born every day so this will also lead to lower birth rates which might eventually lead to extinction.
- The 'obstacle' might cause injuries and increased death toll of the beast if chased away or their natural way is obstructed making them take amore dangerous path whereby they might get hurt and human interference might cause panic too.
This act might bring about a great predator collapse and altered landscape for other animals such as the Thompson gazelles.
The great Masai Mara is known for the Dramatic crossing that takes place between the Nothern Serengeti and Masai Mara this occurs in July-october.
This is known to attract tourist to this spectacular and if no action is taken we might witness the collapse of the tourism industry.
We ask for accountability from the following:
- Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.
- National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).
- The county Governor of Narok H.E. Patrick Ole Ntutu and he's government.
In the famous words of Dr.Paula Kahumbu
"Wildlife is not just a luxury; it's kenya's heritage. It's the foundation of our economy and our identity. We must protect it as if our future depends on it-because it does"
