Save Mula River & Hinjewadi-Mahalunge: Stop the Mega Dump & Crematorium Next to Our Homes!
Save Mula River & Hinjewadi-Mahalunge: Stop the Mega Dump & Crematorium Next to Our Homes!
The Issue
Imagine waking up every single day to the toxic stench of a sewage plant, the smoke of a massive cremation ground, and the flies of a solid waste dump—all operating right outside your balcony.
For thousands of families, IT professionals, and children living in the Maan-Mahalunge Township and Hinjewadi Phase 1, this horrific scenario is about to become a reality.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has uploaded gazetted Town plan for Maan Mahalunge TP-1 and earmarked a dangerous trifecta of highly polluting civic utilities right in our immediate neighborhood:
Plot 450: A massive Sewage Treatment Plant (STP)
Plot 451: A Solid Waste/Garbage Collection Point
Plot 452: A Cremation and Burial Ground
To make matters worse, these three plots sit directly on the banks of the Mula River.
🚨 Why this is a Disaster for Pune:
A Major River Pollution Crisis: Building a garbage dump and sewage plant right next to the Mula River directly violates National Green Tribunal (NGT) environmental buffer zones. During the monsoon, flooding will submerge these sites, washing toxic leachate and hazardous waste directly into Pune’s water supply.
Severe Health Hazards for Our Children: Densely populated residential high-rises surround these plots. The combined forces of foul odors, airborne pathogens, toxic smoke emissions from pyres, and heavy garbage truck traffic will permanently destroy the air and soil quality, risking a public health epidemic.
A Complete Breach of Trust: The Maan-Mahalunge scheme was promoted as a premium, eco-friendly "Smart City" township. Forcing a toxic zoning layout here collapses local infrastructure and reduces the quality of life for tax-paying citizens who invested their life savings here.
We are not against civic infrastructure—but hazardous facilities belong in land-locked industrial zones, NOT on active riverbanks and high-density residential sectors.
🛑 What We Demand From PMC & the Maharashtra Government:
Immediate Suspension: Halt all planning and layout development on Plots 450, 451, and 452.
Layout Modification: Invoke executive powers under the MR&TP Act to change the reservation of these specific plots.
Relocation: Move the waste point, STP, and crematorium to safe, non-residential zones far away from natural water bodies.
Public Hearing: Grant a formal, transparent hearing to the resident delegation of Maan-Mahalunge and Hinjewadi Phase 1.
