A MELBOURNE INSTITUTION IS CLOSING!
SIGN TO HELP SAVE MR TULK!
Don't let the State Library give our beloved indie café to a big player.
One of Melbourne's most famous, and most visited, independent cafés is having to close due to a decision by officials at the State Library of Victoria.
Mr Tulk, which graces the library's La Trobe Street entrance, is named after the first Chief Librarian, Mr Augustus Henry Tulk, who was appointed in 1856.
The owners of the beloved establishment, Michael and Maria Togias, have lost a competitive tender.
PLEASE HELP US KEEP THIS PEOPLE'S CAFE AT THE PEOPLE'S LIBRARY!
Sign the petition to demand that the government overrule the decision, so our loved Mr Tulk doesn't change. We will NOT share your email address with anyone and will destroy the records at the conclusion of the campaign. We may send one or two updates in the meantime, but we certainly won't spam you or ask for money.

THE PETITION:
TO: The Minister for Creative Industries, The Honourable Colin Brooks MP
CC: The Secretary of the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions, Mr Matt Carrick
Dear Minister,
We, the undersigned, petition you to stop the Mr Tulk café, situated at the State Library of Victoria, from being closed.
For years, writers, journalists, academics, students and readers have used Mr Tulk as a place to exchange ideas, begin collaborations, debate politics and culture, and sustain Melbourne’s literary life.
Now, this culturally-embedded institution is likely to be replaced with a big generic operator.
Mr Tulk is not simply a café, but an essential part of Melbourne’s literary and intellectual ecosystem and a living expression of Melbourne’s status as a UNESCO City of Literature.
Yours Sincerely,
The Undersigned
