BREAKING NEWS! We understand that the Mayor has put all city projects (including TIRZ projects), which include lane reduction, lane narrowing or bike lanes, ON HOLD until a new review can take place. This pause is in effect whether they are in the planning process or under construction.
We look forward to hearing from the Montrose TIRZ about how they intend to proceed. We are hopeful they will be more amenable to tree-preserving design alternatives given this new development. We continue to work on creation of design options that can be a win-win for the community and the trees – stay tuned for more info as things proceed.

KEEP UP THE EMAILS TO MAYOR WHITMIRE mayor@houstontx.gov
Mayor Whitmire has done more in his first 3 months in office than most politicians do in their entire tenures. Whether you agree with everything he’s done or not, you’ve got to hand it to him for working hard, tackling the big issues and being transparent about his concerns and decisions.
The Save Montrose Live Oaks core group consists now of about 25-30 people from all edges of the political spectrum who share common goals to save the trees on Montrose Blvd and make the appointed TIRZ board listen to the full-breadth of its constituents, not just influential special interest groups. In other words, to act as if they were elected and could be voted out!
It is really saying something that the widely diverse group of people in Save Montrose LIve Oaks have all been impressed at how well Mayor Whitmire is listening to the people who come before him at city council. Whether their complaint is about a water bill, an unpaid city contract, a denied license or unreturned phone call from a city department, this Mayor is listening, responding and taking action where warranted. It is refreshing to watch him at city council meetings setting the tone that Houston will become a “user-friendly city.”
We are very hopeful he is also listening to the nearly 7800 of you who have asked for a rational, tree-saving design for Montrose Blvd. Send him email. Thank him for listening. Tell him how much our city needs to protect its existing shade canopy.
