The Issue

We, the residents of the Misty Wood neighborhood in Roseville, formally petition the Roseville Joint Union High School District (RJUHSD) Board of Trustees to reject the proposal to move our community out of the Woodcreek High School boundaries for the 2027-2028 school year.

For over 40 years, Misty Wood has been a stable, integral part of the Woodcreek community. We are calling on the Board to prioritize the stability of long-standing residents over the rapid expansion of new housing developments.

Why This Matters

1. Prioritizing Legacy Over Luxury Builds Misty Wood is an established community dating back to the 1980s. Many of us purchased our homes specifically for the school boundaries. It is fundamentally unfair to displace "legacy" residents who have supported this district for decades to accommodate the marketing needs of brand-new housing developments. New growth should be the ones to accommodate the logistical shifts of expansion—not the families who built this community.

2. Protecting Student Social & Emotional Well-being Our children grow up in a specific "feeder" track, attending elementary and junior high with their peers from surrounding neighborhoods. This proposal would isolate Misty Wood students, severing their lifelong social ties as they transition to high school while their friends continue together at Woodcreek. Forcing our small neighborhood into a different high school creates an unnecessary social rift at a critical developmental stage.

(Research shows that peer stability is a primary 'protective factor' for student mental health during high school transitions. By isolating the small Misty Wood population from their established feeder pattern, the district is knowingly removing that social support system, which can lead to decreased school engagement and unnecessary emotional distress for our children.)

3. Increased Commute and Safety Concerns Moving our boundary from 1.5 miles (a 4-minute drive/easy bike ride) to nearly 4 miles (10+ minutes) increases traffic congestion and removes the "neighborhood school" accessibility that makes our community desirable and keeps our children safer.

Our Request
We urge the RJUHSD Board of Trustees to maintain the current Woodcreek High School boundaries for the Misty Wood neighborhood.

We ask that you do not sacrifice the stability and lifelong peer connections of established Roseville families to accommodate rapid expansion. Displacing our students from the community they have grown up in creates unnecessary social barriers and risks their academic momentum.

Our children’s mental and academic well-being depends on the continuity of their support systems. We request that the Board prioritizes the welfare of existing students and respects the deep-rooted community ties that make our district strong.

Keep Misty Wood at Woodcreek High School!
