SAVE ME FROM DEMOLITION, HARTON HALL COTTAGES 1878

SAVE ME FROM DEMOLITION, HARTON HALL COTTAGES 1878
The Issue
Harton Hall Cottages, built in 1878, are part of the very fabric of Harton Village. They were deemed as having such significance to the history and heritage of South Shields that they were placed on the locally listed register by South Tyneside Council several years ago. Unfortunately, this 'accolade' offers them no protection against developers!! This magnificent piece of Victorian architecture is under threat of demolition from the owners of Moor Lane Filling Station, SRJ Energy Ltd. They have submitted plans requesting the demolition of Harton Hall Cottages and the adjacent car showroom so they can build a large convenience store attached to their garage.
These Cottages were part of Harton Hall estate which belonged to Joseph Mason Moore, Mayor and Town Clerk of South Shields at that time. Harton Hall was recently awarded Blue Plaque status! The coachman and gardener of Joseph Mason Moore, lived in the Cottages, they precede motor vehicles, have survived the traumas of two world wars and have witnessed enormous expansion in the village. Please sign this petition to help overturn this demolition proposal!
