Good morning friends,
It's a good day for public parkland at McIvor Reserve. For those that are not aware, the CFMEU not only has a long history of protecting the rights of workers, but since the 1970's has prevented the destruction of sites that have community value.
The Union's support of Friends of McIvor Reserve's campaign to prevent inappropriate development on green space is further evidence that we are doing the right thing for the future of this community.
I hope this, in conjunction with our continued engagement with our councillors, will prompt Maribyrnong City Council to take pause and re-evaluate the notion of 1000-seat indoor stadium and car parks on our parkland and give it motivation to re-focus on more appropriate brown-field sites.
Regardless of any other changes the council may deliver in the final version of their masterplan, if it still contains an indoor stadium and it's associated car parks, we will continue to fight for green space.
