Save Manitoba’s Only Bear Rescue

Save Manitoba’s Only Bear Rescue
The Issue
Dear Premier Kinew
We are writing to express our collective deep concerns regarding the potential closure of Black Bear Rescue Manitoba, the only bear rescue in the province of Manitoba.
The potential for new quarry development in the nearby vicinity, poses significant risks not only to the rescue operation but also to our natural environment and wildlife.
The black bear rescue has been a crucial sanctuary for these bears, offering rehabilitation and care while promoting awareness about wildlife conservation.
The planned quarry developments threaten to disrupt the delicate ecosystem that supports the bears and could lead to irreversible harm to both the local wildlife the vulnerable bears, and the community that has rallied around this important cause.
To name a few reasons why a quarry next to the rescue would be incompatible, it would make it impossible to raise the cubs in the peace and quiet that they need; instead they would be faced with blasting, drilling, vibration, truck traffic, dust, and potential contamination of their water supply.
This is a unique and popular charity in the province which is showcasing Manitoba on the worldwide docu-series, Cub Camp.
As you may be aware, the manager of the black bear rescue and the town of Stonewall are currently attempting legal options to challenge the developers as well as the RM. However, we believe that broader support and advocacy are essential to strengthen our efforts and safeguard our natural heritage.
The significance of preserving our environment is a matter we hold close to our hearts, and we believe it resonates with many individuals and organizations committed to conservation.
We respectfully plead for your assistance in this matter. Whether through advocacy, legal support, or raising awareness, any help you could provide would be invaluable.
Thank you for considering this urgent request. We look forward to your response and hope we can find a definitive solution to protect our wildlife and environment for generations to come!
