Bring Back Lynchburg Nature Zone

Bring Back Lynchburg Nature Zone
The Issue
Lynchburg residents are on the brink of losing a cherished institution. The Lynchburg Nature Zone, a sanctuary for both live animals and the local community, was indefinitely shut down with the proposed tax cuts by the Lynchburg City Council. This decision already has and will continue to ripple through our community, affecting residents of all ages.
The Nature Zone is more than just an environmental education center; it's a vital community resource. It provides a space for children to experience the joys of outdoor learning through camps and classes at little to no costs. These programs are crucial for their hands-on understanding of the environment and nature conservation, and is the only free nature center in Lynchburg and the surrounding area.
Losing the Nature Zone would not only impact the education and recreation offered to our children but would also lead to job losses for dedicated staff members who have poured their heart into educating and inspiring our next generation of environmental stewards. Each staff member at the Nature Zone is passionate about their role in the community, and their expertise is irreplaceable. Every animal that calls the Nature Zone home would be surrendered to other authorities.
The loss of this facility would create a void in Lynchburg’s community culture, depriving many of opportunities to connect with nature and each other. Our local government must recognize the long-term social and ecological value of the Nature Zone. Instead of cutting such an essential program, the Lynchburg City Council should explore alternative solutions for budget concerns that do not include removing this community pillar along with other Parks and Recreation centers.
We urge the Lynchburg City Council to reconsider their decision and prioritize the needs of their citizens and the environment. Let's act now to save the Lynchburg Nature Zone from closure. Please sign this petition to show your support and help bring back this vital part of our community.
