Save LOVE Gorgie Farm

Save LOVE Gorgie Farm
The Issue
Gorgie farm has been a pillar of its community in Edinburgh since it initially started as a green space in 1970. As of 1982 it was providing farm services in Edinburgh and went on to grant opportunities for experience to people who don't otherwise have access to such experiences. Since then thousands of volunteers, placement workers, community service workers, assisted learning groups, and students have been given free opportunities, training, experience and qualifications. When COVID-19 hit its peak during 2020 the farm continued to remain free and support its community by offering a foodbank that it has run to this day.
The farm faces imminent closure due to debt. The Edinburgh Council refuse to allow the farm a renewed lease and aim to take the lease back, while removing funding. Our goal is to have the council revoke this decision as the farm has brought attention to Edinburgh, opportunities to young people, and has given the public a free chance to see animals without having to travel outside of Edinburgh's town.
The farm has been a place of opportunity like no other in Edinburgh for decades, having drawn attention from the Queen herself when she visited in 2016 and 2020. The importance of the farm for Edinburgh should not be understated and the farm should be allowed to continue to uphold the community, provide experience to the less fortunate, and pay off its debts as it has been doing this year under new management.
Should the farm close jobs will be lost, the community will lose one of its keystones, and many in underpriveleged situations who saw it as home will lose any chance to work with others and with animals. The therapy services and qualifications provided will be lost, and Edinburgh will lose a very valuable educational resource.
Take a moment to help us save LOVE Gorgie Farm.
