Loudoun County Board - No more DATA CENTERS!!!
SCC - Please reject Route 5, Orange, along with other overhead routes and go with partial undergrounding near schools to protect our 17 communities!!!
Dominion: Bury the lines near schools!
Loudoun County residents have been actively resisting Dominion Energy’s proposal to install 500kV high-voltage transmission lines that threaten to disrupt our residential communities under the Golden to Mars project.
Of the six proposed routes, Route 5 (Orange Line) has been designated as the “Right-of-Way” option along Loudoun County Parkway. This path would cut through 17 communities and place thousands of residents directly at risk, with transmission lines running through backyards and neighborhoods. It is unreasonable for the County Board to consider Route 5 as the default option when its impact is so severe.
Dominion should instead commit to the partial undergrounding the lines near residential areas and schools within 500 ft.
If public do not oppose, Route 5 (Orange) can be automatically selected, impacting 1,200+ homes within 500 feet, businesses, schools, daycares, hospitals along Loudoun County Parkway.
Route 5 would directly affect the following neighborhoods:
Loudoun Valley II and Loudoun Valley Estates I
Ridges at Loudoun Valley
Buckingham at Loudoun Valley
Belle Terra
The Lakes
Birchwood at Brambleton (55+ community)
Brambleton
Carlisle at Loudoun Valley
Moorefield Communities
Westmoore
Westwind Crossing
Dulles Parkway Communities
Metro Walk Communities
Residents strongly oppose Route 5 (Orange Line) along with other overhead routes for the Golden-to-Mars project for the following reasons:
Declining Property Values:
- These large power lines, along with the safety concerns they bring, could lower home values by as much as 25% to 30%.
- The drop in value won’t just affect the homes right next to the lines, research shows that wealthier neighborhoods often see even bigger declines.
Increased Fire and Safety Hazards: Overhead high-voltage transmission lines, standing 185 foot tall, pose even greater risks during accidents, severe weather, or infrastructure failures.
Increased Accident Risk: Changing traffic patterns and narrowed lanes can lead to more accidents, further compounding delays.
Negative Visual and Community Impact: These towers will ruin the scenic views and take away from the natural beauty and character of our area. Their industrial look will not fit with our homes or the surrounding nature, making our communities feel less peaceful and attractive.
Traffic and Infrastructure Disruptions:
Obstructed Visibility & Safety Risks: Large transition lines could create blind spots for drivers, particularly at intersections and pedestrian crossings, leading to increased accident risks.
Disruptions to Emergency Services: The presence of 185 ft lines and related infrastructure could obstruct emergency vehicle access, creating bottlenecks and delays in response times for fire, police, and medical services—especially in high-traffic areas like Loudoun County Parkway.
Permanent Roadway Narrowing: If Dominion Energy’s infrastructure requires access roads or utility corridors near major intersections, it could permanently alter traffic flow, reducing road capacity and increasing congestion.
Recurring Maintenance Delays: Routine inspections, repairs, and potential emergency fixes on the transmission lines will require periodic lane closures, creating ongoing traffic disruptions long after construction is completed.
Our Requests to Local Leadership
🔹We urge Dominion Energy to respect our community’s overwhelming opposition to Loudoun County Parkway route 5. We urge to bury the lines near schools.
🔹 We urge the State Corporation Commission (SCC) to reject Route 5 along Loudoun County Parkway. Power lines do not belong in residential communities.
🔹Route 5 (Orange) runs through densely populated neighborhoods, near multiple schools, businesses, emergency centers, and community infrastructure; putting the daily lives and well-being of countless families at risk. We strongly urge the SCC to avoid Route 5 along with other overhead routes.
Our communities deserve responsible energy solutions that minimize harm to residents and protect our homes, schools, and quality of life.
