!!WE NEED YOUR HELP ONE LAST TIME!!

After writing basically a novel of an essay as to why keeping our skatepark is vital, the city councilors and mayor completely dismissed what we said with “we understand but...” and then avoided every significant point we made. We are so many levels of disappointed, honestly that’s an understatement when you blow off 3,500 people’s wants and needs.

WE HAVE PROVIDED A BLANKET EMAIL SO PLEASE EMAIL THE MAYOR AND USE THIS FORMAT:

DO NOT CLOSE LONSDALE SKATEPARK!

MAYOR BUCHANAN:

You are blatantly ignoring the needs of a local community made up of thousands of members across the City of North Vancouver: Users of the very unique Lonsdale Skatepark. Over 3,500 people have expressed their opposition to its imminent demolition.

The thousands of people you are ignoring include many young children and their parents, at-risk tweens and teens, young adults, the middle aged and even senior citizens. This is shameful.

The Lonsdale Skatepark has served as a social and recreational hub for nearly 20 years. Further, it requires little to no maintenance or overhead or staff to monitor. It is entirely self-sustaining.

Suddenly demolishing it when there is no equivalent replacement within North Vancouver City municipality shows a total disregard for everyone that relies on this space to bring their kids or meet their friends or practice their sport.

You are severely underestimating how damaging this will be to not only to citizens who use the park but to the business owners, pedestrians and motorists who will undoubtedly complain to your office about the sudden increase of skateboarders on the streets of the City. This dynamic is precisely the reason the Park was constructed in the first place.

Your response of keeping the Park open another 2 weeks and only giving 2 weeks notice to our community before taking it away permanently, was frankly insulting.

WE DEMAND YOU TO KEEP THE PARK OPEN UNTIL A PERMANENT NEW FACILITY IS READY.
