More people die of unintentional drug overdose in Australia than on our roads.

Penington Institute's annual overdose report was released yesterday, and it shows number of Australians who die from drug overdose each year continues to rise.

Yet, repeated calls for a comprehensive evidence-based response to this crisis largely go unnoticed by governments. Evidence from 120 Supervised injecting services operating globally show that they save lives, reduce the burden on emergency services and connect people to vital health care.

International Overdose Awareness Day is on Thursday 31 August. It is a day when we remember those who have died from overdose, and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind.
