Hello all,
I wanted to provide a couple of updates. Today, I went to a special legislative meeting in Hollister. The San Benito Board of Supervisors and Congressman Robert Rivas attended. The expansion of Highway 25 was discussed and Supervisor Kollin Kosmicki mentioned needing barriers on the Santa Clara side. I was very grateful for this topic coming to light in front of Rivas. I also did another interview with KTVU, so be on the lookout. I managed to speak with Supervisor Kosmicki. He stated he's been staying on top of this issue and that "we will get it done!"
I received an email from Caltrans representatives, Dianna Beck, on 2/18. Please help email/call her and let her know we need changes on 25. Her email is Dianna.Beck@dot.ca.gov. We need to keep pushing for change together!! Here is her email:
Hi Erica
I heard back from our District 5 Traffic Division Chief who let me know that District 4 and District 5 have been coordinating together for a joint safety investigation. The results of the investigation are still under review and we expect to have public information to share soon, hopefully by the end of the month. They are planning to hold a public meeting as well but that will take more time to coordinate and will likely be between March and May.
The next steps are for our Headquarters Traffic Safety Programs to review the recommendations and once approved, any recommendations would be initiated as a Caltrans project through what we call a PID (Project Initiation Document). That is the first step in our project delivery process, to identify the scope of a project, then we clear the project through the environmental phase, it is designed by our engineers, and then ultimately goes to construction.
Hopefully we’ll have more information on what the recommendations are soon! I also wanted to note that we are still progressing with the SR 25 Corridor Improvement Project, that work will continue separately from any proposed recommendations from the safety investigation.
Thank you,
Dianna
