Save Liverpool City Cougars: Keep Our Club at Dwyer Oval

Concerning the Relocation of the Club

The recent announcement by Liverpool City Council to relocate our beloved local rugby union club is not only distressing, it feels like a betrayal to many in the local community of Liverpool NSW.

We, the undersigned members of the community, respectfully request that Liverpool City Council reconsider its decision to relocate Liverpool City Cougars Junior Rugby Union Club from its current location at Dwyer Oval, 13 Simmons St, Warwick Farm NSW 2170 to Childs Park, 4 Central Ave, Chipping Norton

Liverpool City Cougars Junior Rugby Union Club is an established club and have been based in Dwyer Oval for fourteen years. The club has been an essential part of the social fabric of the Liverpool community, providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for people of all ages to enjoy sport, stay active, and foster community spirit. The current location is accessible to all, including children, elderly members, and those with limited mobility. Moving the club would create difficulties for many and essentially take the club from its player base.

The club has a rich history and tradition at its current location, this holds sentimental value for its members and wider community. The club brought significant foot traffic to nearby businesses, supporting local shops, cafes, and other services. Dwyer Oval, has hosted district minis gala days, Shute Shield and international team trials, and hosted international touring sides from New Zealand. This legacy should be preserved and honoured by keeping the club where it belongs.

In addition, with the men's and women's Rugby Union World Cup being held in Australia in 2027 and 2029, Rugby Australia will be providing infrastructure funds for the world cup. These funds will be available to all rugby union clubs in 2025. This could potentially provide a signification injection into the local economy. Further, in the next month, NSW Waratah Rugby will be appointing a Western Sydney Manager to drive recruitment and academies which Liverpool City Cougars are part of.

"Liverpool City Cougars Junior Rugby Union Club", is projected to grow significantly next season with new families expressing interest in registering their children in 2025. Additionally, there is a major community engagement drive for 2025 with the local Primary and High Schools around holiday programs and off season rugby clinics for community kids and youths.

In an area surrounded by rugby league clubs, Liverpool City Cougars Junior Rugby Union Club is the only rugby union club within Liverpool and Fairfield Local Government Area. This is 'the last stand'.

As such, we strongly urge the Liverpool Local Council to consider the above points and recognise the importance of the Liverpool City Cougars Junior Rugby Union Club to the community. We believe that keeping the club at its current location, is in the best interest of everyone involved.

Yours Sincerely,

Masani Lemusu.

Club President - Liverpool City Cougars Junior Rugby Union Club

Save Liverpool City Cougars Junior Rugby Union Club from extinction by stopping the relocation of our club.

We, the undersigned, strongly support the effort to keep "Liverpool City Cougars Junior Rugby Union Club" at Dwyer Oval.
