Save Leeds Pond & Beyond!

Save Leeds Pond & Beyond!
The Issue
An environmental assault is taking place that could destroy Leeds Pond and the surrounding environment. The destruction threatens the water, the diverse wildlife and their habitat, and the entire Leeds Pond ecosystem! Recent development includes excavation, filling, clearing of trees and vegetation. Action must be taken NOW before irreparable damage is done!
Expanding residential development has led to numerous instances of land filling, tree and natural vegetative clearing, uncontained stormwater runoff and drainage pipes that all threaten Leeds Pond and its surrounding environment, which is home to diverse wildlife including: birds, fish, turtles, amphibians and invertebrates. Please add your voice to the Save Leeds Pond Petition below. Together, we can amplify our voices for conservation, stewardship and responsible community planning for this unique and fragile ecosystem:
1. We call upon the Village of Plandome Manor and Town of North Hempstead to protect our invaluable natural resources, to adopt a commonsense action plan that will provide a comprehensive strategy for the implementation of environmental conservation and water quality measures for the entire watershed draining into Leeds Pond and beyond.
2. We call for removal of landfill, immediate restoration of land, lost vegetation and habitat with a moratorium on the removal of trees and native vegetation, excavation and landfilling, and drainage pipes directly draining into Leeds Pond.
3) We call on the Village of Plandome Manor, Town of North Hempstead, Nassau County and State of New York Department of Environmental Conservation to immediately, fully and effectively enforce (including the imposition of fines and penalties) the law to ensure the health of Leeds Pond, Manhasset Bay, Long Island Sound to preserve our environmental resources for future generations.
