Save Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park from Irreversible Plastic Pollution

The Issue

Help us protect Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPWP) from the growing threats of plastic pollution and habitat destruction.

Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPWP), covering 181.63 hectares, is one of the Philippines' Wetlands of International Importance. It serves as a crucial stopover for migratory birds, supporting diverse ecosystems, but it's under serious threat. Plastic pollution, land reclamation, water contamination, and habitat disturbance are endangering this vital wetland. During recent visits, the ERIA team and our own team, the TRASHFORMERS, observed layers of plastic waste trapped in the mangrove areas — a clear sign of how badly the ecosystem is suffering.

Why This Matters:

  • A Critical Ecosystem – In 2007, LPPWP was appointed as a Critical Habitat for the survival of threatened, restricted-range, and congregate species, such as migratory birds, fish, and marine life. The introduction of plastic waste is disrupting natural processes and harming biodiversity.
  • The Threat of Plastic Pollution – Plastic is accumulating in the mangroves, potentially choking the delicate balance of this habitat. Migratory birds can ingest plastics, and marine life is at risk of entanglement and poisoning.
  • Wetlands and Climate Health – Wetlands like LPPWP play an essential role in water filtration, carbon sequestration, and flood control. If this vital habitat is lost, it will have far-reaching consequences for both the environment and local communities.

We need YOUR help! By signing this petition, you are sending a message to local and national governments that we cannot afford to ignore the threats facing LPPWP. We need stronger protection for this vital wetland, and a commitment to combat plastic pollution and preserve its natural beauty for future generations.

Make your voice heard. Together, we can make a difference and protect LPPWP from the devastating impact of pollution and habitat loss.
