As part of the legal settlement following the heartbreaking drowning at Lake Paran in 2024, a strategic safety plan was to be implemented to prevent future tragedies and ensure a prepared, coordinated emergency response. Sadly, that plan has never materialized. There has been no staff training, no tabletop exercises, and no safety drills. This is not just a missed opportunity—it’s a critical failure.
Due to restrictions imposed by their insurance provider, the current management is no longer authorized to employ lifeguards or conduct any supervised water-based activities. They are now required to post signage that reads “Swim at Your Own Risk” and are prohibited from offering or implying any monitored aquatic programming. This loss of water rights is not a technicality; it reflects a larger failure to meet even the most basic standards of safety and risk management for a public recreational facility.
Let me be clear: I am not trying to close the lake. I am fighting for its future.
Lake Paran is my favorite place on Earth, and I want nothing more than to see it thrive. My goal is to support responsible, transparent, and accountable stewardship—one that makes the lake safe, welcoming, and sustainable for everyone.
Under my proposed leadership, Lake Paran will operate with:
Licensed and certified lifeguards on duty during all public swimming hours
A qualified medical professional on staff, such as a field medic or EMT (a responsibility I take personally as a former EMT)
An actionable, enforceable safety plan, developed in collaboration with experts
Proper lighting and water maintenance, to ensure both physical and environmental safety
Restored and expanded recreational programming, aligned with best practices in risk management and community wellness
These measures are not optional—they are essential. Public safety should never be negotiable, especially at a place entrusted with the care of children, families, and the wider community.
I have also developed a strategic revitalization plan that could bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding, re-engage the local community, and set Lake Paran on a path of resilience, inclusion, and excellence.
Finally, I want to thank everyone who has supported this effort with compassion and understanding.
