Hello all,

KC Water and Education responded to my email with questions about eco-friendly road salt and resulting salinity in residents' water and in the Missouri River. They said:

"Based on a review of our River and stream data 2015-2020: Our data on the River does not show that there is any increase in salinity, or the River has not become saltier over the last six years. KCMO does not have data about aquatic life in the River. Our data about selected local streams does not show the streams have become saltier either. KCMO’s survey of aquatic life in local streams does not indicate any declining trend in the quality of the ecosystem over the years so far."

However, based on my weeks of extensive research, this is very likely not the case--how can salt be applied and re-applied year after year, for decades, and not affect the aquatic ecosystems in KCMO? Furthermore, KCMO has not publicly said if it is doing anything significantly different with its road salt techniques. How can the aquatic ecosystems not be affected by regular road salt, then? It is not logical.

Feel free to read any past updates, or leave comments, and thank you all for your support.
