The Issue

Petition to:

The City Government of Kabankalan City, including the Office of the Mayor and the Sangguniang Panlungsod

Petition Statement:

We, the Kabankalanons, former and present residents, and supporters of Kabankalan City, RESPECTFULLY call on our local government to halt the proposed construction of a fountain in the middle of our long-standing football field.

For generations, this football field has been more than just open space—it is a living part of our city’s history. It is where children learned teamwork, where friendships were built, where athletes trained, and where our community gathered. Many of us quite literally grew up on this field.

To replace this meaningful space with a decorative structure is to erase a piece of Kabankalan’s identity.

We are not against progress or beautification. However, we strongly believe that development should honor our past while serving the real needs of our people today.

At a time when communities face ongoing challenges, we urge the city to prioritize investments that have a deeper and more lasting impact, including:

EDUCATION – improving schools, learning resources, and youth programs
HEALTHCARE – strengthening access to clinics, medical services, and preventive care
DISASTER PREPAREDNESS – enhancing infrastructure and readiness for typhoons, floods, and emergencies
Kabankalan is no stranger to natural disasters and economic challenges. Public funds should be directed toward projects that protect lives, strengthen futures, and uplift communities—not toward projects that risk displacing spaces that already serve the public in meaningful ways.

Our Call to Action:

We respectfully urge the City Government of Kabankalan to:

Immediately suspend any plans to construct a fountain on the football field.
Preserve and rehabilitate the field as a protected community sports and heritage space.
Engage the public through transparent consultation before making irreversible changes.
Redirect funding toward essential services such as education, healthcare, and disaster preparedness.

This is not just about a field.
This is about who we are as a community and what we choose to value for future generations.

Let us protect what has shaped us—and invest in what will sustain us.

Sign this petition to stand for Kabankalan’s history, its people, and its future.
