We, the undersigned members of the University of Utah community, respectfully submit this petition to request that Chartwells Dining Services grant a special exception to its exclusivity clause to allow Julio Durand, owner of INTI Specialty Coffee, to continue operating his coffee shop in the A. Ray Olpin Union.

INTI Specialty Coffee has operated in the A. Ray Olpin Union for the past two years and has become a valued and distinctive part of campus life. INTI Specialty Coffee is a locally owned business, and Julio Durand personally invested more than $50,000 to build and curate a space dedicated to highlighting Peruvian coffee, culture, and ethical sourcing practices.

During his time in the Union, Julio Durand and INTI Specialty Coffee have actively supported the University of Utah community by partnering with numerous Recognized Student Organizations, contributing to events and initiatives, and supporting the Union Scholarship Program, which directly benefits students.
INTI Specialty Coffee adds unique cultural, local business, and educational value to the A.
Ray Olpin Union. Allowing INTI to remain through a special exception would recognize its positive impact and the importance of supporting small, locally owned businesses that enrich the campus experience.

We respectfully urge Chartwells Dining Services to grant a special exception to the Union exclusivity clause and allow Julio Durand to continue operating INTI Specialty Coffee in the
A. Ray Olpin Union.
