Save Ilkeston Pewit Open Space from Development

The Issue

I am a local resident of Ilkeston, UK, who along with many others, frequently enjoy the natural beauty and tranquility of Pewit open space. This area is not just an open space; it is a haven for walkers, horse riders, cyclists, dog walkers and a diverse range of wildlife. It plays host to thriving ecosystems that are integral to our local environment.

The threat of development on this cherished green space is looming. The potential loss would not only affect the people who use this area daily but also disrupt the delicate balance of flora and fauna that call it home.

According to the UK's Office for National Statistics (ONS), access to green spaces has been linked with better mental and physical health. Yet despite these benefits, such areas are increasingly under threat from urban development.

We must protect Pewit open space - for us, for our children and grandchildren, for nature itself. We urge decision-makers in Ilkeston to consider alternative sites for development that won't rob us of this precious asset.

Please join us in preserving Pewit open space by signing this petition today!

****Update 22nd February 2024******

Following the scrutiny meeting at Erewash Borough Council last night we are pleased to say the committee voted to reject the plans and passed it back to the full committee. This will now be reconsidered.

While the fight is not over, it is a step in the right direction. We still need your support and more signatures. Please sign and share.

Thank you for reading.
