The issue

Hyper Karting, located in Sydney’s Entertainment Quarter, is at risk of closing due to a decision by the City of Sydney Council to reject an extension of its operations on the rooftop of the Moore Park parking structure.

Since opening in 2021 under a temporary five-year approval, Hyper Karting has become a unique and exciting destination for locals and visitors alike. However, despite its success, a request for a short two-year extension has been denied, with the council stating that the commercial use of parking spaces is “unacceptable” and that the rooftop must return to its original purpose.

This decision overlooks the significant value Hyper Karting brings to the community.

The potential closure would:

Result in the loss of more than 150 jobs
Remove a major entertainment attraction from Sydney
Negatively impact the local economy and surrounding businesses
Take away a social and recreational space enjoyed by thousands
While parking availability is important, a balanced solution must be considered—one that supports both infrastructure needs and the preservation of a thriving local business.

We urge the City of Sydney Council and relevant stakeholders to:

Reconsider the decision to deny the lease extension
Work collaboratively with Hyper Karting to find a compromise
Allow continued operation while exploring long-term solutions
Hyper Karting is more than just a go-kart track—it is a community hub, a source of employment, and a key part of Sydney’s entertainment landscape.

By signing this petition, you are standing up to protect jobs, support local business, and keep an iconic experience alive.
