Save Holiday Resort: Protect Our Residents, Jobs, and Community

The Issue

We, the supporters of this petition, urge the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) and state leadership to halt the closure of Holiday Resort in Emporia, Kansas, scheduled for December 6, 2024. We respectfully request that the state place the facility under receivership, allowing time to address financial and regulatory concerns while preserving critical services for our residents and jobs for our dedicated staff.

Holiday Resort is more than just a nursing home—it is a lifeline for 52 vulnerable residents who depend on its care and a source of employment for over 100 hardworking staff members. The sudden closure will:

- Disrupt the lives and well-being of elderly and vulnerable residents, potentially causing emotional trauma and health complications.

- Leave over 100 employees without jobs, further straining the local economy in Emporia, which has already been impacted by the recent closure of the Tyson plant.

- Create a gap in long-term care services in our community, putting additional pressure on local healthcare systems.

Receivership offers a compassionate and practical solution that will allow the facility to remain open while corrective actions are implemented under state oversight. This approach ensures continued care for residents, job preservation, and the opportunity to stabilize operations for the future.

By signing this petition, you are standing with the residents, staff, and community of Emporia to keep Holiday Resort open. Together, we can urge state officials to take action and prevent the devastating impact of this closure.
