Thank you for signing our petition. In case you missed it, there is an updated story indicating the city & BC Hydro “mutually agreed to pause the removal of the tree on Princeton Avenue while options related to the tree and the nearby transformer are explored.”
Still, we have no idea how long this pause is for. It could be for a week, or it could be for a few months; hoping we all forget and go on with our lives, only to wake up one morning and finding our tree gone.
We need to make our tree unforgettable.
Ways to do that:
- Share this petition: new friendly URL: change.org/richmondtree
- You all have networks. Friends, social groups, schools, etc. You definitely know people that we don't know and can help in getting our numbers known. BC Hydro consulted only 2 houses in their initial decision and were forced to listen to hundreds more, just based off a few days of word of mouth.
- Email decision makers. Some ideas below:
- BC Hydro's CEO, Charlotte Mitha: charlotte.mitha@bchydro.com
- BC Hydro's Community Relations Manager, Lower Mainland, Sabrina Locicero: sabrina.locicero@bchydro.com (604) 623-3517 (see footnote)
- Hon. Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions: ECS.Minister@gov.bc.ca (778) 698-7671
- Hon. Kelly Greene, our local MLA Kelly.Greene.MLA@leg.bc.ca (604) 241-8452
- Premier David Eby premier@gov.bc.ca (250) 387-1715
- Mayor & Councillor's Office: mayorandcouncillors@richmond.ca
- Keep talking to people. See someone on the Railway walking path, admiring the trees? Let them know. If the weather apps aren't lying, Saturday will be a great day to be outside. :)
Thank you all for your support. It's really nice to see our community come together.
Footnote: A BC Hydro brochure stated:
"At BC Hydro we build strong relationships to support the unique needs and strengths of the communities we serve. Our Community Relations team does this by listening, providing information and working together with communities. Community Relations is the point of contact for local government, media, local business and community groups."
This sounds exactly like the team we should have heard from.
