Notice that instead of “honoring the legacy of Lansing Eastern High School” by keeping the building, the questions guide you to respond in ways OTHER THAN preserving the building.

Here are the 2 questions they will ask and some sample answers.

Question 1

“What ideas do you have for how we can meaningfully honor the legacy of the old Lansing Eastern High School? Ideas shared with the UM Health-Sparrow team so far include a memorial garden, a dedicated remembrance wall within the new facility and other similar opportunities.”

Answer 1 (any of the following)

·      Keep Eastern standing.

·      Preserving the west wing and auditorium of historic Eastern.

·      The most meaningful way to honor the legacy is to preserve Lansing Eastern High School. Do not knock it down.

Question 2

“Do you have any questions about the proposed behavioral health facility? If so, please share them below, or send them via email to SupportingMentalHealth@umhsparrow.org. “

Answer 2 (any of the following)

·      Why do you resist collaborating in a meaningful way with those in Lansing to design this facility?

·      Why won’t you sit down with the Coalition to Preserve Eastern High School and Promote Mental Health to develop a site plan for the 18-acre site?

·      Why haven’t you done a charette with mental health professionals, Eastern alumni, neighbors, city leaders, and preservationists to collaborate on how to create a behavioral health facility?
