We, the undersigned parents, students, staff, and community supporters, respectfully urge the leadership of Highland Avenue Christian School and Highland Avenue Community Church to explore every possible alternative before making a final decision to close the school. The recent announcement regarding the potential closure of Highland Avenue Christian School has left many families concerned about the future of a school that has faithfully served children and families for generations. Highland Avenue Christian School is more than a program—it is a faith-based educational community that has helped students grow academically, spiritually, and personally. Before students are displaced, families are forced to find new schools, and staff members lose their positions, we believe every reasonable option should be considered. We specifically ask leadership to explore whether Highland Avenue Christian School could continue operating as an independent nonprofit organization or through a parent- and community-led nonprofit partnership, or as a for profit Christian school owned and operated by an investor and ran by the same staff. We are requesting an urgent meeting with church leadership, school leadership, board members, and any appropriate Nazarene district representatives to discuss: • Whether the school operates on campus as a separate legal entity. • Whether the school could continue under an independent nonprofit corporation at a new nearby location. •Whether the school can operate as a for profit corporation at a new nearby location. • What financial, staffing, insurance, licensing, or governance requirements would be necessary to keep the school open • Whether parents, alumni, donors, and community members can form an emergency transition committee to help preserve the school We are not asking leadership to ignore challenges. We are asking for transparency, collaboration, and a genuine opportunity to explore alternatives before an irreversible decision is made.
