Save Herries Range Qld from Acciona's wind farms

Save Herries Range Qld from Acciona's wind farms
The issue
The Herries Range Ridgeline 50km from Warwick Qld serves as a vital ecological hotspot, home to koalas and 38 other endangered species. It is a protected flora and fauna area of native vegetation protected by Qld Government Trigger mapping as a koala habitat and home to 38 endangered species of flora and fauna. Industrialization here threatens to disrupt these ecosystems irreversibly. We must prioritize preservation over development, recognizing the intrinsic value of our natural landscapes over short-term industrial gains.
While supporting renewable energy, our community insists that this location is totally unsuitable for wind projects due to:-
- a lack of suitable town infrastructure to support an influx of workers(very limited rental accomodation, no medical facilities, police, ambulance or shopping centres & single classroom schools)
- Risks to Primary Production in a rich agricultural area - biosecurity threats from PFAS and carbon fibre contamination of land and waterways, increased fire risks, Loss of water security - all severely jeopardizing livestock and crop production for family businesses.
- Threats to recreational tourism vital to our economy- camping fishing, fossicking, motorsport event participants who enjoy this naturally rugged and beautiful area.
- Property devaluation and economic losses for residents who love this desirable bush area that features big sky country views and a peaceful quiet lifestyle.
- Construction noise, dust and extensive roadworks along what are currently tree lined quiet single lane unsealed country roads. Proximity to neighbouring property boundaries is within 900 metres - 120 turbines 274 metres high and the footprint of the project spans 3 Shires.
- Health risks for households of residents and children attending schools in close proximity (headaches, concentration issues, sleep disruption, mental health and anxiety) from constant turbine noise, strobing and vibration as seen in other projects.
- Power from this project exported out of the region providing zero direct electricity benefits to our towns. A glaring lack of consultation by Acciona with community members and questions from the community that remain unanswered, leaving residents feeling disregarded, fearful and disrespected.
There is still time to stop this project from happening. Please join me in urging our members of Parliament Mr James Lister - Qld Member for the Southern Downs and Hon. David Littleproud Federal Member for Maranoa to advocate on our behalf to refuse this project when the application is lodged by Spanish company Acciona . Demand that they respect our environment and lifestyle by finding alternative locations that do not put our natural assets, lifestyles and agriculture at risk.
Let's protect the pristine tranquility and ecological significance of Herries Range for current and future generations. Your voice is crucial in this fight for conservation and community integrity, We are a community with a population too small to resist its onslaught up against a multinational company. So we need your help. Please sign this petition now.
