Petitioning Vice-Chancellor, University of Brighton Professor Debra Humphris

STOP THE CLOSURE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF BRIGHTON SITES IN HASTINGS

On Tuesday 8th March 2016 it was announced that the University of Brighton would be SHUTTING DOWN it's three sites in Hastings within the next two years.

I am a local resident of Hastings and have seen the huge positive effect the University has had for students, local people and how other people view our town. I felt compelled to start this petition after attending the student's meeting with the Vice-Chancellor and hearing the direct impact this decision has already had on so many people.

THIS WILL EFFECT OVER 600 STUDENTS, HUNDREDS OF STAFF AND HAVE A MASSIVE EFFECT ON THE LOCAL ECONOMY.

AFTER £12M OF PUBLIC MONEY SPENT ON THE THREE SITES IN HASTINGS, ONE OF THE MOST DEPRIVED AREAS IN ENGLAND, THE UNIVERSITY HAS A DUTY TO STAY IN HASTINGS.

All students will be expected to move or travel to sites in Brighton to finish their courses. The average rent in Hastings is £500, the average rent in Brighton is £1006. A return on the train to Brighton from Hastings is £21.80 a day. This will mean many students will be unable to afford to finish their course.

We will also lose one of the most Disabled-friendly campuses in the UK , with all three sites having full access, with caring and well trained Staff.

I am calling on Professor Debra Humphris, Vice- Chancellor of the University of Brighton to REVERSE her decision on the CLOSURE of the three sites in Hastings.
