Save Harford County Farmland - Stop the Harford TER solar complex
The Issue
Northern Harford County, with its lush agricultural landscapes, is in danger of losing more farmland. The next proposed Harford County industrial solar complex is planned for 2901 Rocks Road, Jarrettsville, MD.
Harford TER LLC, a company based in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, is trying to develop a solar complex that will occupy approximately 26 acres of 72 acres of prime working farmland; turning prime growing farmland into an industrial solar complex with a capacity of 5.0 Megawatts.
Industrial solar complexes destroy prime farmland, destroy wildlife habitat, they increase local temperatures (solar heat effect), create noise from the 35-40 inverters, almost 9000 tracker motors, and a number of transformers, produce glare from the solar panels, and there is a risk of toxic chemicals leaching into the soil, our ground water, and the nearby wetlands and water shed. Needless to say they will ruin the rural visual landscape.
The Rocks Road land is located on a hill where runoff water will drain into nearby South Stirrup Run and travel into Deer Creek close by. Surrounding wells could be contaminated by chemicals (Cadmium is a big one) leaching from the solar panels. In the past, the Environmental Protection Agency has announced clean water settlements against four solar companies.
Industrial solar complexes are prohibited by law on agriculturally zoned ground in Harford County. The state of Maryland by passing MD SB931-2025 (Senate Bill), is overriding Harford County Law by forcing the Harford County Zoning Department to accept this prohibited use. The state of Maryland is telling Harford County that they cannot enforce their own Harford County laws. Laws the people of Harford County have based their lives and their livelihoods on for generations.
Supporting this petition not only means protecting our farmland but also standing against a precedent that permits Maryland state government to override local land use laws. We urge the authorities to listen to the voices of Harford County residents and recognize the value of preserving our agricultural land for future generations.
Please help save Harford County Farmland. PLEASE SIGN and SUPPORT the PETITION and SHARE it with others. Thank you.
