All Birmingham’s community libraries are now under serious threat as a result of the dire financial position facing the City Council. As a Harborne resident and local representative I know how important Harborne Library is in serving the needs of our community. 

It’s one of the busiest community libraries in the city, with over 120,000 books issued in the last year. But it’s about much more that – it’s at the heart of our local community, an important resource for all ages, from local school children to older residents.  

According to data from The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), UK libraries have seen a 29% decrease in funding over the past decade (source: CIPFA). This has led to widespread closures across the country. We cannot let this happen to Harborne Library. We need your help to show those in power that our library matters - that it plays an essential role in fostering literacy, education, social interaction and community spirit.
