Save Gospel Oak Nursery From Closure
Save Gospel Oak Nursery From Closure
I am writing this heartfelt petition to save Gospel Oak Nursery.
As part of the council's latest proposals for early education in Camden, it is suggested that 4 of the best nurseries in Camden will be closed. This is devastating news for the parents, staff, and community. First and foremost it is devastating for the children who thrive and have been thriving at the nurseries. The proposals aim to close the nurseries and repurpose the buildings as facilities which offer no childcare for children under 5.
My daughter Mila is full time at Gospel Oak Nursery and I simply cannot praise the place more. The staff go above and beyond for the children, they are kind considerate and caring. The nursery offers excellent support for children of all different backgrounds. It is an environment where the children's needs are always put first.
The nursery has been especially great in my family's case where I have had personal matters arise and have heavily relied on their services, childcare and support with my daughter. My daughter has learnt so much at the nursery and has grown confidence and formed friendships. She is a happier, more contented, independent and outgoing child since attending.
It will be truly terrible if all of the hard working staff who have put their time, energy and passion into the nursery are made redundant or jobless alltogether. The staff have lives, houses and families to look after and pay for. It would be wrong for them to lose their jobs after such dedicated and compassionate work.
The nursery is a historical landmark and opened in the 1970's. My mother was one of the first children to attend the nursery when it opened and it was ground breaking at the time, offering mothers new solutions to go to work and providing outstanding care for infants. This care has continued to be outstanding over 45 years later where it still proudly holds an OFSTED "Outstanding" title.
Gospel Oak Nursery provides one on one childcare for children with autism and other special educational needs (SEN). Without this provision there would be many children that would be unable access services which would be integral to their development. Not to mention the children with conditions that already attend the nursery and depend on stability and consistency for their health and well being.
This is just a small example of the cuts being made to vital services in education. It can be seen across the board with the failing NHS, Metropolitan Police Service, public libraries and many other services that the community rely on, on a daily basis.
The children must come first and these proposals are at the detriment of the very people who are supposed to be helped. The suggestion that children's centres can replace a vital community asset such as high quality child care in a setting that creates community cohesion, is wrong. There is a reason the centre received an outstanding review, because it is simply irreplaceable.
Gospel Oak Nursery also has the highest intake of all 4 of the nurseries facing these proposals. Whilst it would be devastating for any to be lost, Gospel Oak really does have a special place.
Notwithstanding this, the consultation period has been given with very short notice. I do not believe that this is a coincidence. This is wrong and people need to have their voices heard and it isn't too late, with your signature the nursery can remain open.
THIS IS NOT A DONE DEAL! Please sign this petition to keep the nursery open and allow the children already attending to continue thriving and give an opportunity for new children to start!
