Save Gharghur: Dejma 

I object to PA06545/23 in Gharghur, townhouses proposed on agricultural fields in an Urban Conservation Area. 

The area, “Id-Dejma” is characterised by traditional farmhouses and old townhouses, mature trees and rubble walls, visible from Gharghur valley. It offers a beautiful view to residents and visitors who walk there. It is an area full of memories for the people of Gharghur. 

Development on this site would completely ruin the piazza “id-Dejma”, which apart from its charm and beauty also forms part of the local narrative and cultural heritage. 

The sizeable farmhouse boasts many original features such as stone water canals, xorok and kileb, which should be retained and restored to its original state. The mature garden features now rare ponsietta, pomegranate and olive trees.

Yet the proposed townhouses with pools went on sale by estate agents months before an application was submitted and before citizens could make their views heard. 

Please save the character and the memories of urban areas and protect the open, natural green space and agricultural fields that we still have.
