The response to this petition demonstrates how important George Mason Park is to our community and to our city at large. As you may have seen at Community Meeting #2 a few days ago, ACPS has not yet provided us with a building design that preserves the park. The designs were presented again with some exterior refinements at last week's Community Meeting (slides here). As you can see, the plans still indicate their intent to replace the existing grass field with a variety of spaces, including pavement, plastic turf, and playgrounds. The school board will vote on the final design this Thursday, October 10.
Please take the opportunity right now to write an email to the school board, the SAT team, and the design team to advocate for the park and for the community to have a chance to vote for a design which preserves this green space. Please also consider giving a public comment at the School Board meeting on Thursday.
