The Issue

A Community, a Sport, and a History at Risk
For decades, Gas City Speedway has been more than just a racetrack—it has been a gathering place for racers, fans, and local businesses, a proving ground for up-and-coming drivers, and a staple in the Indiana dirt track scene. It has hosted legendary events like USAC Midget Week, Indiana Sprint Week, and the James Dean Classic, drawing national talent and thousands of spectators.

Now, this track’s future is in jeopardy.

The speedway did not open in 2024. Several experienced promoters and organizations attempted to negotiate lease agreements to bring racing back to Gas City. Every proposal was rejected, leaving the track’s fate uncertain and raising concerns that it may be sold for purposes that do not include motorsports. If we don’t act now, we could lose Gas City Speedway forever.

What’s at Stake?
🔴 A Racing Tradition Could Be Lost – Gas City Speedway is a key part of Indiana’s racing heritage. Over the years, it has provided a stage for legendary battles, grassroots racing, and unforgettable moments that cannot be replicated. Closing this track would mean losing one of the Midwest’s most iconic bullrings.

🔴 The Local Economy Will Suffer – Restaurants, hotels, and small businesses in Gas City rely on race nights for revenue. Losing the speedway means fewer visitors, less local spending, and economic setbacks for the businesses that depend on this traffic.

🔴 Opportunities for Future Generations of Racers Will Disappear – Dirt track racing is built on the passion of local and regional racers who need places like Gas City Speedway to hone their craft. The loss of this track reduces the number of opportunities for young drivers to compete, develop, and move up in the sport.

Why We Must Act Now
🏁 Momentum is building to save this track, but we need to show widespread support. If the current owners see a strong, unified demand for the speedway’s return, it increases the chances of securing a future for racing here.

🏁 Potential investors and promoters are watching. If we demonstrate public interest and community backing, it becomes easier to connect with the right buyer or organization that can restore Gas City Speedway to its former glory.

🏁 Once it’s gone, it’s gone. If the property is sold and redeveloped for purposes outside of motorsports, there will be no getting it back. We have a limited window to make our voices heard before a decision is made that could erase Gas City Speedway forever.
