French Broad Outfitters (FBO) at Hominy Creek is more than just a business—it's a cherished community hub where Asheville locals and tourists gather for tubing, kayaking, and family-friendly fun. Nestled at the intersection of Hominy creek and the French Broad River, FBO offers a unique experience with a clean beach, shipping container beverage bar, food truck, live music, and a welcoming space for dogs and children to play.  For cyclists: it's a destination on the greenway.

Since 2016, FBO has revitalized this once-neglected area, transforming it into a safe, clean, and vibrant spot for everyone to enjoy. They've taken on the responsibility of maintaining the space, ensuring it's litter-free, safe during floods, free of vagrants, and a haven for families, dog parents, and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

Despite these positive contributions, Buncombe County is threatening to close FBO due to an old land use assessment that had gone unnoticed for nearly 20 years, and is unnecessary for the upkeep of Hominy Creek.  We believe FBO's operations actually enhance conservation efforts by actively caring for the land and preventing it from falling into disrepair. If FBO is forced to close, the burden of upkeep will fall on taxpayers, reversing the progress made and depriving the community of a beloved recreational spot.
