Four Sherrelwood neighbors showed up at the Adams County Government Center in Brighton and submitted our formal statements in support of preserving the Franklin Reservoir. While we were there, we saw two other Sherrelwood community members commenting on other issues related to our community.
Out of 7 total speakers across all of Adams County, 6 of them were showing up for Sherrelwood. That is an AMAZING turn out.
Some things I've learned recently that I wanted to share:
Adams County is BIG! Sherrelwood is SMALL: Because we are unincorporated, we have to compete with the rest of the needs of the county. Adams County ranges from western parts of Denver suburbs, all the way out to the eastern plains. Sherrelwood is only 2.4 square miles of the larger 1,1 84 square miles of our county! But...
We have A LOT of people: I'm not kidding! We are the second most dense neighborhood in all of Adams County, second only to our neighbor Federal Heights. Our population is double, in some cases triple the density of neighboring cities or jurisdictions in Adams County. And those neighbors enjoy hundreds if not thousands more acres of parks, open spaces, and trails than we have access to here in Sherrelwood.
We are burdened by traffic and industry: Suncore is the prominent view of our Denver skyline. We pretend the traffic noise from I-25 and Highway-36 is the hiss of the ocean. We are spitting-distance from heavy manufacturing operations that continue to grow. This exposure takes its toll on our health and our wellbeing.
What can you do?
Please share your support for this effort to protect one of our last pieces of natural space our neighborhood has to cling to. If not for you, for future generations. Once it's gone, we cannot get it back. We deserve nice things, and with your help we can advocate for them.
