Fiasp has been saved ! Fiasp wins !
The Issue
If the insulin known as Fiasp is not PBS listed, the absolute majority of people with diabetes who have been prescribed this insulin will not be able to afford it.
Since Fiasp became available to Australians living with diabetes, we have seen reduced post-prandial glucose spikes, reduced HbA1Cs, enhanced TIRs and happier people with diabetes.
Take Fiasp away by not making it financially affordable will lead to many experiencing suboptimal glycaemic profiles…the thought of this is already causing angst, stress, anger, fear, frustration and worry for people with diabetes.
There’s never just one way to manage diabetes. Everyone’s diabetes is different. So to ensure people have the right tools to support their individual diabetes needs, means there needs to be a wide range of tools readily available…this includes a range of insulins because the same insulin won’t suit everyone.
The people who suffer from the removal of Fiasp from the PBS are the people living with diabetes. The people who will suffer the most will be those who are already struggling because this world is frustratingly very good at disempowering the minority and marginalised.
Australia’s diabetes community wants diabetes stakeholders including pharma companies to know that they will not tolerate businesses supporting profit more than people! The Australian diabetes community will keep advocating until we witness no evidence of inequitable access to diabetes services, clinicians, technology and therapies.
