Save Emerson Elementary School from closure

The Issue

Emerson Elementary School has been a cornerstone of our community since 1955. For generations, it has served as more than just a place of learning; it has been a vibrant hub where children grow, families gather, and lasting relationships are built. Our school is renowned for its excellent academic standards, boasting an 'A' rating for several years. Yet, it faces an uncertain future as it has been placed “Under Review” for closure by the Attendance Boundary Committee.

The thought of losing Emerson Elementary is deeply troubling. This decision would not only disrupt the education of our children but would also dismantle the unique community spirit we have fostered over decades. Our children deserve to continue learning from the dedicated teachers who have contributed to this esteemed rating, and to participate in programs that enrich their education and personal growth.

Closing the school would mean longer commutes for students, disruption of established friendships, and the loss of a cherished institution. The ripple effect of such a decision would debilitate our neighborhood, as families might consider relocating, thus impacting local businesses and the overall economy of our area.

We must act now. It is imperative for all community members, whether you've received the review notice or not, to attend the upcoming community meeting on Wednesday September 16,  2026 at 6:00pm in the school cafeteria and voice our collective opposition to the closure of Emerson Elementary. Public engagement has proven powerful in impacting decisions like these, and together, we can make a strong case to retain our beloved school.

Join us in standing up for our children’s future, for our teachers, for the programs that define Emerson, and for the enduring spirit of our community. Please sign this petition to urge the Attendance Boundary Committee and the school district to reconsider their decision, and to keep Emerson Elementary School thriving for generations to come.

Responded
Thank you for voicing your concerns below as it relates to Emerson Elementary School. Please be advised that no actions are being taken towards Emerson Elementary. Being under review does not mean a decision to repurpose a school has been made; rather, it signifies that the school is undergoing a structured assessment using established district criteria. Thank you. -Superintendent's Office [Note: The Change.org Civic Engagement Team reaches out to decision makers to let them know about petitions in their community and to help facilitate engagement with supporters. The above was an email response we received regarding this petition.]
