SAVE ELECTIVE COURSES AT CARDINAL CARTER - BRING BACK TEACHERS
The Issue
On Friday June 16th, at Cardinal Carter, it was announced that 2 teachers have been removed from next years staff(*). This means that 12 elective courses will not be running next year, as each teacher carries 6 classes singlehandedly. Students at Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts, especially those going into grades 11 and 12 next year--are currently being heavily impacted by this cut in courses. All decisions on course selection are currently--somewhat tentative. However, if neither of these teachers are replaced: these removed electives and the pathway planning of students attending Carter is in danger. So far, the news of these cuts in courses have weighed on students and staff heavily. Staff have known about this change since April and have expressed how discontented they have been ever since. Many people have experienced replacements of courses they wanted/needed to take. These important courses have been replaced with courses students didn't apply for, don't feel comfortable taking, spares, are online learning options, and/or etc. These changes to courses were not personal decisions or intentional attacks toward students. Changes to the schedules of students were necessary in order to account for the circumstances(fewer teachers). ALTHOUGH, there is something we can do about this. RIGHT NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT, by signing this petition, it is hoped that, if we can accumulate enough signatures, the Superintendent and other superiors in the TCDSB will reinstate(although this is unlikely) these two teachers back as they have already gotten contracts elsewhere. Or, hire new ones so that these courses can continue. WHETHER YOU ARE IN GRADE 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12, please sign this petition and encourage parents/family and friends to sign as well.

Due to a lack of funding, board-wide and provincially, and due to a high volume of students choosing not to return to Carter next year: two teachers have been removed from staff
EXTRA INFO: Please do not attack guidance teachers, Cardinal Carter staff, admin, or otherwise. Many/all of these decisions were and are not personal attacks on students. Cardinal Carter staff is not to be harassed. Please maintain order even whilst emailing the board director or other peoples' in our community.
