Save Education Services & Jobs at the Museum on the Mound, Edinburgh!

The Issue

We urge Lloyds Banking Group to reverse the sudden decision to cut vital education services and jobs at the Museum on the Mound, Edinburgh.

The museum has recently announced the termination of all in-person education sessions of the highly valued programme for Scouts, Cubs, and Beavers. The popular ‘Scout Saturday’ sessions have run for years, offering free, engaging activities that teach young people about money, saving, and the economy in fun and practical ways. These sessions directly supported the Money Skills badge for Cubs and Beavers, delivering critical financial education to children at a formative age.

This programme didn’t just provide learning—it enabled Scout groups from rural areas to visit Edinburgh, gain confidence, and develop wider life skills, while also supporting Scout volunteers.

Now, these invaluable sessions are being abruptly scrapped as the museum's education staff have been informed their roles will be terminated by the end of August 2025, leaving the museum to operate with only a skeleton staff. We fear this will also mean the end of free school visits, which have been a cornerstone of the museum’s community outreach.

This move is deeply short-sighted. As a major financial institution, Lloyds Banking Group should be championing financial education for young people—its future customers—and actively supporting the communities it serves in Edinburgh, Scotland, and beyond.

We call on Lloyds to:

  • Immediately halt the planned job cuts
  • Reinstate the in-person education sessions
  • Reaffirm its commitment to financial education and youth development

Please sign this petition and contact your local MSP or Charlie Nunn, CEO of Lloyds Banking Group, to voice your concerns.

Help us protect educational opportunities for Scotland’s young people—before it's too late.
