Friends,
After a long and arduous journey, and over $500,000 spent, the damage to Echo Park Lake has been restored.
It's time to enjoy our park that has finally been reclaimed for the public to use! It took a while, especially after the struggle of the clean up; which according to LASAN documents, posted by the Los Angeles Times, involved cleanup crews removing 723.5 pounds of biological waste and 300 pounds of hazardous waste, which included ignitables, paint, sharp objects and drug paraphernalia. Families, elderly, children, LGBT+, disabled, and all residents who reside near the park will finally be able to enjoy it without fearing for their lives. The park that we paid $45 Million for has finally been given back to all residents to enjoy.
After Mitch O' Farrell transitioned those living at the park to various housing options, including the LA Grand Hotel in DTLA, and the various Project Homekey and Roomkey Sites, unhoused will no longer be living and dying at Echo Park Lake. And Mitch O' Farrell has assured the public it will stay this way. See his comments In this video from NBC
Several events are planned soon for the lake, to restore community access, including a blessing from a Native American Chief who will preform a ceremony to bless the lake and it's waters, to ensure it remains a peaceful place for the entire community.
The lake will be officially open on 5/26/21 at 3pm. Please come down and start enjoying this new paradise in the heart of Los Angeles.
